. Isabel Allende was born in Peru and brought up in Chile. The historical parts are nicely presented, even though I’m not sure how accurate they are. When opportunity to seek refuge arises, they board a ship chartered by the poet Pablo Neruda to Chile, the promised ‘long petal of sea and wine and snow’.
